A 42-inch pepper popper measured at 1.4 mil through a first-focal-plane reticle, resolved to 833 yards, with the solver returning a 7.3-mil elevation dial in an 8 mph four-o'clock wind

One paragraph

Yonder (shootyonder.com) is a free, browser-based long-range shooting simulator that trains the actual skills of precision rifle shooting: measuring a target in milliradians through a realistic scope, computing its range, dialing elevation, and holding for wind. Under the hood is a modified point-mass ballistics engine validated against Hornady 4DOF Doppler-radar trajectory data across 32 of its 36 factory loads: three agree to within 0.02 mil from 300 to 1,100 yards, and 29 more to within 0.05 mil — the full validation data is public. It includes a full Long Range Academy (40 lessons across nine units, ranging fundamentals through advanced wind reading), head-to-head pass-and-play matches on one device, and Cold Bore: one cold shot a day at the same seeded target and wind as every shooter on earth — fired on your own rifle (custom loads pass a plausibility envelope, so the daily board stays honest). Free on the web and on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

Why it's a story

1 — The core loop: mil the elk, compute range, dial 3.8, send it (600 yd). · 2 — Cold Bore daily: one cold shot on steel at 500, result card & streak. · 3 — Wind hold: 15 mph crosswind at 750, a 1.6-mil hold into the wind.

Boilerplate / press release

Yonder Software LLC launched Yonder (shootyonder.com) on July 24, a long-range shooting trainer that combines a research-grade ballistics engine with the actual skills of precision rifle shooting: measuring targets in milliradians through a realistic scope, computing range, dialing elevation, and holding for wind. Yonder is free in any web browser and is available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad as a free download with an optional Pro tier. Unlike arcade shooting games, Yonder's modified point-mass solver — modeling G7 drag, spin drift, Coriolis effect, and aerodynamic jump — has been checked against Hornady's 4DOF Doppler-radar trajectory data across 32 of its 36 factory loads: three agree to within 0.02 milliradians at every 100-yard step from 300 to 1,100 yards, and 29 more to within 0.05 milliradians. The methodology is published at shootyonder.com/validation. Yonder includes a full Long Range Academy of 40 lessons across nine units, covering ranging fundamentals through advanced wind reading, timed competition-style stages, head-to-head pass-and-play matches on a single device, and Cold Bore — a daily challenge that puts every shooter worldwide on the same target with one cold shot per day, on their own rifle. Yonder is free at shootyonder.com and on the App Store.

Founder

Alex Hesterly is a long-range shooter and software developer in Utah, and the founder of Yonder. Quote for attribution: "Ranging and wind errors are huge factors in missing or wounding animals at distance, and they are perishable skills almost nobody practices. Ammo is two dollars a round and elk season is short. Now the practice is free and it's in your pocket."

Ethics & positioning (for editors)

Yonder is a marksmanship-fundamentals tool for hunters and competitive shooters: ranging discipline, knowing your limits, wind humility. Targets are game animals and competition steel. We're glad to talk about ethical-shot preparation, wounding-loss reduction, and what "validated ballistics" means. We're equally glad to be fact-checked on all of it.
